DRC – A GOLDMINE FOR THE WORLD, A GRAVEYARD FOR ITS PEOPLE

By Ephraim Agbo

The Systematic Rape of a Nation

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) sits on $24 trillion worth of minerals, enough to make it one of the richest nations on earth,  enough to take Africa out of poverty forever. Yet, it remains one of the poorest. The reason? A ruthless system of looting, fueled by multinational corporations, foreign governments, and corrupt local elites who sell their country for personal gain.

The DRC is not at war by accident. It is kept in a constant state of chaos so that the world can steal its resources. From colonialism to the present, Congo has been a crime scene—and the criminals wear suits, sit in boardrooms, and sign billion-dollar deals.

The Congo’s Wealth—A Curse in Disguise

The DRC is the richest country on earth in terms of natural resources, but its people live in extreme poverty. Here’s what lies beneath its soil:

🟡 Cobalt (70% of global supply) – Used in electric vehicle (EV) batteries, smartphones, and laptops.

🟡 Copper (10% of global supply) – Essential for electrical wiring, construction, and infrastructure.

🟡 Coltan (50-60% of global supply) – Powers every smartphone, tablet, and gaming console.

🟡 Gold (Untapped reserves worth billions) – Smuggled out daily, mostly to Dubai and Switzerland.

🟡 Diamonds (30% of global supply) – Fueling the luxury industry while miners starve.

🟡 Lithium (Newly discovered reserves) – The backbone of the green energy transition.

🟡 Tin, Tantalum, and Tungsten (3Ts) – Key to electronics, aerospace, and defense industries.

🟡 Zinc and Lead – Used in construction, batteries, and industrial processes.

🟡 Oil and Gas – Untapped reserves worth billions, waiting to be exploited.

🟡 Uranium – The raw material for nuclear power and weapons.

This should make Congo a global economic powerhouse. Instead, it is a war zone, because foreign interests will do anything to control these resources.

Colonization—The Original Heist

The plundering of the Congo started long before today’s corporations. King Leopold II of Belgium turned the country into his personal slave empire in 1885. His men killed, mutilated, and enslaved millions to extract rubber, ivory, and minerals.

By the time Belgium officially took over in 1908, over 10 million Congolese were dead. This was not a tragedy—it was a genocide, designed to strip the Congo of its wealth while keeping its people in chains.

The Assassination of Lumumba—The West’s Ultimate Betrayal

When Congo gained independence in 1960, Patrice Lumumba sought to take control of its resources. The West could not allow this.

  • Belgium and the CIA orchestrated his assassination in 1961.
  • Mobutu Sese Seko, a Western puppet, took power and ruled for 32 years, selling Congo’s wealth to the highest bidder.
  • Under Mobutu, foreign corporations looted the country while the people starved.

The playbook was clear: Congo must never be allowed to control its own wealth.

Wars, Warlords, and Corporate Greed

Since the 1990s, over 6 million people have died in conflicts that are not about ethnicity or politics—they are about minerals.

💣 Rwanda and Uganda fund militias that massacre civilians to control mining areas.
💣 Western and Chinese corporations buy “conflict minerals” from these militias.
💣 The U.S. and EU support dictators who keep Congo weak and easy to exploit.

The world pretends to care about human rights, but as long as the minerals keep flowing, no one will stop the killing.

The Multinational Corporations Stealing Congo Blind

The real colonizers today are not kings and armies—they are multinational corporations. These companies operate with zero accountability, exploiting child labor, environmental destruction, and corrupt deals to drain Congo’s wealth.

🔴 Glencore (Switzerland) – The largest foreign mining operator in the DRC, controlling cobalt and copper mines through bribery and corruption.

🔴 China Molybdenum (China) – Owns massive cobalt mines. China controls 60% of the DRC’s mining sector.

🔴 Apple, Tesla, Samsung, and GoogleEvery smartphone, laptop, and EV battery contains Congolese cobalt, mined by children.

🔴 Barrick Gold (Canada) & Anglo American (UK) – Two of the biggest players in gold and copper extraction. They avoid taxes by moving profits offshore.

🔴 Rwanda & UgandaSteal Congolese gold, coltan, and diamonds and sell them as their own.

🔴 The United States & European UnionFund wars indirectly by purchasing conflict minerals.

The result? The DRC remains poor while the world gets rich off its back.

Smuggling and Economic Sabotage

Even when Congo tries to benefit from its wealth, foreign players ensure it never happens.

  • $1.1 billion in gold is smuggled out of the DRC annually.
  • Mining contracts pay Congo only 1-5% of the true value of its minerals.
  • Western-backed financial institutions keep the country in debt, forcing it to rely on aid.

This is not a failed state—it is a deliberately sabotaged state.

How Can the DRC Break Free?

Congo does not need foreign aid. It needs justice. Here’s what must happen:

Stop exporting raw minerals. The DRC must refine cobalt, lithium, and copper inside the country instead of sending them to China and Europe.

Nationalize key industries. No more foreign control—Congo must own its wealth.

Expose and reject corrupt contracts. Every mining deal must be transparent.

Kick out corrupt politicians. Leaders who sell the country’s future must be removed.

Hold multinational corporations accountable. If companies profit from conflict minerals, they must be banned from doing business.

Force the West and China to pay fair prices. No more cheap resources for foreign empires.

Final Thought: The World’s Greatest Crime Is Happening Right Now

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is not a poor country—it is a wealthy nation being systematically looted.

For over a century, foreign powers, multinational corporations, and corrupt elites have built a system designed to keep Congo weak, divided, and exploited. They do not want the DRC to succeed—they want cheap minerals, obedient leaders, and endless war.

Let’s be clear: Congo does not need charity. It needs justice. Until the world stops treating the DRC as its personal treasure chest, millions will continue to suffer while the world grows richer off their pain.

This is not a conflict. This is not mismanagement. This is the largest and most sustained act of economic theft in modern history. And it’s still happening—right now.
