SPECIAL REPORT: PASTOR ADEDEJI ADEKUNLE DELIVERS POWERFUL LESSON ON SPIRITUAL GROWTH

"Spiritual Maturity is Not Optional—It’s a Divine Mandate!"

By Ephraim Agbo

In a compelling and transformative School of The Bible  class on Thursday at Treasuredlife Family Church, Kano, Pastor Adedeji Adekunle, Resident Pastor under the leadership of Bishop Bolu Martins, delivered a stirring lesson titled "The Word as Food to Eat." The sermon was a clarion call for believers worldwide to transition from passive Christianity to active, self-sustaining spiritual growth.

From Milk to Meat: The Call to Spiritual Maturity

Pastor Adekunle challenged the congregation with an unfiltered truth:

"It is unacceptable to remain a spiritual infant forever! Drinking is not enough—you must eat!"

Drawing from 1 Corinthians 3:1-2, he likened the journey of faith to human growth, emphasizing that while new believers may rely on others for spiritual nourishment, true maturity comes when individuals take responsibility for studying and applying the Word themselves.

He outlined two critical stages of spiritual engagement:

  1. The Drinking Level – A foundational stage where believers depend on pastors, teachers, and mentors to guide them in the faith.
  2. The Eating Level – A stage of personal responsibility, where Christians actively study, meditate, and internalize God’s Word (Joshua 1:8).

"You cannot build a strong faith life by relying on someone else’s study. The Word must become your daily bread!" he proclaimed.

The Word of God: A Force That Transforms Lives

Using Jeremiah 13:15 as a reference, Pastor Adekunle emphasized that the right application of God’s Word has the power to shift spiritual atmospheres and break limitations. He urged believers to prioritize personal Bible study, referencing 2 Timothy 2:15, which instructs believers to “study to show yourself approved.”

"A malnourished Christian is a powerless Christian!" he warned. "Your ability to stand firm in times of trial depends on how deeply rooted you are in God’s Word."

He further emphasized that spiritual nourishment produces tangible results, pointing to Galatians 5:22, which lists the fruits of the Spirit:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-Control

"A believer who truly eats the Word will manifest these qualities effortlessly!" he declared.

Faith: The Key to Supernatural Breakthroughs

Addressing the critical role of faith, Pastor Adekunle asserted that without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). He illustrated this truth through biblical examples:

  • Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:29): Faith activates miracles, but doubt causes failure.
  • Abraham’s progressive obedience: Faith grows in stages—Abraham’s journey from leaving his homeland to offering Isaac demonstrated the deepening levels of trust in God.
  • Sarah’s redemption: Despite her initial doubt, the Word of God outshined her mistakes, proving that faith in God's promises prevails over human error.

"Faith is not passive—it requires action!" he declared. "It is the filter that separates distractions from destiny."

Neglecting the Word Leads to Spiritual Loss

In one of the sermon’s most sobering moments, Pastor Adekunle referenced 1 Kings 3:18-21, warning that neglecting the Word results in loss—of spiritual gifts, direction, and even destiny itself.

"When you sleep spiritually, the enemy takes what belongs to you!" he cautioned. "You do not lose your gifts in a moment; you lose them when you stop standing on the Word."

He addressed parents specifically, urging them to cover their children in prayer and scripture, regardless of their current struggles or rebellion.

"No matter how far they stray, the Word spoken over their lives will anchor them!" he assured.

A Global Call to Spiritual Awakening

Closing with a powerful charge, Pastor Adekunle left the congregation with no room for complacency:

  • Spiritual maturity is non-negotiable.
  • Faith is built through consistent study and meditation.
  • Christians must move beyond being hearers to being doers of the Word.

This is not just a message for this church—it is a global call to action!. We must raise a generation of believers who eat, live, and stand on the Word of God!

The response from the congregation was overwhelming—many left the service deeply convicted, ready to take responsibility for their spiritual growth.
