This situation is even more concerning because the Pope had part of his lung removed when he was young, which weakens his ability to fight infections. Although he remains conscious and alert, he is noticeably weaker than before.
Because of his condition, he did not lead the usual Sunday Angelus prayer, where he blesses people from St. Peter’s Square. Instead, another priest read his message on his behalf.
